1240, Autumn 2

Scotland in Autumn

In our Ars Magica campaign, we are still on the magical island in the Atlantic. We have managed to convince them that we can be trusted not to expose their existence to the rest of the Order of Hermes. However, their background may be that they are descended from House Díedne, the House that was destroyed for diabolism centuries ago.

We are still on the island, discussing what to do next. We are invited to a nice meal, but who really are these people and what do they want? What do we want to do about our relationship with them?

Are they House Díedne? According to the law of the Order of Hermes, should report the. Even if they aren’t House Díedne, they are obviously magi but not members of the Order. However, we probably wont.

The food provided is of good quality and some of it reminds me of home.

Talking to the ones here, we find out that those with the Gift are trained in magic from birth. They have techniques and forms similar to what we do, so they are probably of Hermetic descent. I have a discussion with several of them about Enigmatic Wisdom. I have a profound revelation about something to do with grape seeds.

They make a comment that suggests they might not be great at ritual magic, and they seem to have a need to take a break just before sunset. House Díedne were known for contributing spontaneous magic to the Order, and weren’t good at rituals. If they know the Parma Magica, and are outside the Order, then this is another “Join or Die” moment. Personally, though I know there is a risk, I’m not that concerned about there being other magi out there.

We tell them a bit about the outside world, which their younger members seem to be interested in. I do ask about books, but they don’t seem to be that interested in sharing resources since it would be a risk to them keeping themselves secret.

They have Twilight, though they call it “Being Summoned to the presence of the Lady”

That night, we sleep.

The following morning, we are taken back to the Black Building, and we are informed where the next ceremony will be performed – at Inschfield Stone Circle. But it’s their ceremony, not the ritual being performed by the Merinita.

But they don’t know exactly where the Dark Merinita will be performing their ritual. But it will be sometimes close by to that. They may be getting instructions in their dreams, being twisted by Damhan-allaidh.

They state that they were hoping that we would deal with the Dark Merinita. Given that the Merinita have an Arch Mage amongst their number, I’m not entirely certain how they expect us to do it.

I would prefer not to kill them, something that they refer to as “Cowardice”. They obviously like to take the easy way out, with no concern for moral decisions.

We talk about meeting up, but they are concerned about meeting at our covenant, since our leader, Alexandra, was apprentice to one of the magi from the same covenant as the Merinita Arch Magus.

So we agree to meet in the Library in a couple of weeks. What our plan will be we have no idea. We should try to stop the Dark Merinita from doing their ritual, but how we do that is going to be the tricky bit.
